    It is increasingly difficult to find good new sci fi that really is just that. I was unable to put this book down after I started it and have had the most enjoyable time reading it. The beauty of sci fi is the mirror it holds to us here and now. This work certainly does that combined with a great story and engaging characters. Can’t wait to start the next and see how they develop further. Thank you, Becky.

    Beautifully written! The characters were so realistic on multiple levels, enjoyed the culture explaining of the different species and just all around loved it!!!!

    I liked this very much. Likeable characters, a rollicking plot with some nice twists and a redemption or two, as well as a good hard sad bit. Didn't get too lost in itself and there's a nice style and voice starting to be heard there. Write more. Like.
  • At Last, Something A Bit Different

    I very much enjoyed this book, which surprised me. Normally, I enjoy the heroic and epic tales, where the hero develops amazing fighting, or say wizardry skills and then there's a quest or a journey with others to save the world, galaxy or universe. I was a bit fed up with that type of book and turned to this book as something different. Great decision! Although this book in someways is about the every day stuff of life, nevertheless it totally held me, such that I could not put it down. Highly recommended.

    Writing a critique you have to have a list of positives and negatives. Therefore I am a failure. I just enjoyed the book. I identified with the characters. I did not agree with all of their views but I enjoyed tolerating them. It was not a seat of the pants book. It was a book that enveloped you in its world and when the beings were stressed so was I. There was excitement and thrills but they developed naturally . That made the thrills more real. It was worth you writing this book.

    This was a really interesting read. And it is something of a rare book as well - the story contains real-life people who you'd meet on the street. Maybe in the future, real 'Joes' like you and me may get into space with all of our abnormalities. I really want to read the sequel - the book positively screams for one. Give it a try - you will enjoy.

    Best Sf read of the year for me , well written, believable (if somewhat bizarre) characters, simple story line, but great detail in outlining characters and their interactions / relationships, loved the AI ... became believable. The baddies were far enough away from the other cultures to make the goodies seem like the usual political mash up. The Chef/Doc seemed to step out of the page and I would love to cook / taste some of the food . Technology just far enough beyond the known to be unquestioned , but nicely grounded in a human tech repair world, not too much "Magic" so easy to accept as part of story. looking forward to Lovely's exploits in the next instalment.
